Fireworks Galaxy

The so-called Fireworks Galaxy, a face-on spiral galaxy about 22 million light years away from Earth, has had eight known supernovas in the past 100 years. Such celestial explosions gave rise to its nickname. Our Chandra X-Ray Observatory has revealed three of the oldest supernovas ever detected in X-rays, giving even more credence to its nickname.
