Ecuador Earthquakes

Ecuador Earthquakes — There have been approximately 19 earthquakes of magnitude 4.5 or greater in Ecuador from April 16 to April 19, 2016 (at the time of this posting). 

The mainshock (largest earthquake in this series) was a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on April 16 at 23:58 UTC, leading to several hundred casualties and significant destruction. 

Approximately 10 minutes before the mainshock, there was a magnitude of 4.8 foreshock in the same region. Since the mainshock, there have been 17 aftershocks. Aftershocks will continue for the coming days, weeks and likely months. The chance of larger earthquakes in this regions is small, but not zero.
