From NOAA Satellite and Information Service:
This image shows Typhoon In-fa, via Japan's Himawari-8 satellite, approximately 158 nautical miles west-southwest of Pohnpei on November 11, 2015.
The first unit of the Japan Meteorological Agency's third generation of geostationary satellites, Himawari-8, became operational on July 7, 2015. Providing visible light and infrared images of the Asia-Pacific region, data provided by the satellite are vital for global geostationary coverage. NOAA and JMA have mutual back-up arrangements for geostationary systems, with the GOES-R and Himawari satellite series carrying similar advanced imagers.
