Vessels Passing through the Soo Locks

The final cargo vessel of the season to pass through the Soo Locks was the tug/barge Defiance/Ashtabula enroute for Toledo, Ohio with 23,596 tons of taconite, she cleared the lock at 7:23 this morning. Pictured is the U.S.C.G. Cutter Mackinaw (the actual last boat of the season) passing the tug/barge and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers tug Owen M. Frederick preparing to enter the lock to scrape ice from the gates. Crews are already beginning the de-watering process for winter work
