Salar de Atacama

Salar de Atacama is the largest salt flat in Chile and the largest source of lithium in the world. This photograph, taken by Francesco Mocellin, shows part of the salt flat on April 13, 2009. Lithium is used in the production of batteries as well as in soldering and for lubrication.
