Kīlauea Volcano Lava Flow

On Saturday morning at 3:15 AM HST, the Kīlauea Volcano lava flow in Hawai`i crossed Apa`a Street/Cemetery Road at the western edge of Pāhoa Village. Throughout the day on Sunday, HVO scientists conducted ground observations of the flow to monitor its rate of progression. This photograph, taken at 10 AM Sunday shows the flow front advancing toward the northeast as it moves through an open field. The direction of the flow is trending toward one of the steepest decent paths plotted on the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory's lava flow maps, which leads to Pāhoa Village Road.

Daily updates about Kīlauea's ongoing eruptions, recent images and videos of summit and East Rift Zone volcanic activity, and data about recent earthquakes are posted on the HVO Web site athttp://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/
