NW PACIFIC OCEAN - System 99W Still Disorganized

From NASA's Hurricane Web Page:

NW PACIFIC OCEAN - System 99W Still Disorganized

System 99W still appears disorganized in imagery from NOAA's GOES-West satellite on Dec. 29 at 1200 UTC (7 a.m. EST) as it struggles just north of the Equator.

System 99W is centered near 1.0 north latitude and 177.0 west longitude, approximately 1015 nautical miles east-southeast of the Kwajalein Atoll.

Forecasters at the Joint Typhoon Warning Center said that "animated multispectral satellite imagery shows a consolidating low-level circulation center embedded within an extensive, impressive area of deep convection associated with a strong westerly wind burst event."

The low-level center of the low pressure area remains poorly defined, however. And there are some fragmented bands of thunderstorms in the northwestern quadrant.

The potential for the development of a significant tropical cyclone within the next 24 hours remains low.
