NORTHERN INDIAN OCEAN / Bay of Bengal - System 97B Still Disorganized
System 97B is centered near 4.5 north latitude and 89.2 east latitude, about 565 nautical miles east-southeast of Columbo, Sri Lanka.
This visible image of the currently disorganized low pressure area was taken from the MODIS instrument aboard NASA's Aqua satellite today, Nov. 13.
Animated multi-spectral satellite imagery depicts weak curved banding of thunderstorms that are starting to wrap into an area of persistent developing storms. Sea surface temperatures are favorable for further development at 28-29 degrees Celsius (Sea surface temperatures need to be 26.6C or warmer for development). Several global computer models are
Developing this disturbance into a weak tropical cyclone over the next two to three days. Maximum sustained surface winds are estimated at 10 to 15 knots. However, over the next 24 hours, System 97B has a low chance to become a depression.
