In a letter to his brother, Jeremiah Anderson told of his purchase of a disputed land claim in the vicinity of Barnesville. "there is about 30 acres of bottom prairie and all the rest is timber; it has a new hewed log house on it….It has cost me about 350 dollars but it can't be bought for one thousand tomorrow."

Jeremiah later joined John Brown and was killed during the raid at Harpers Ferry.
