The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM), studying rainfall for weather and climate research, re-entered Earth’s atmosphere June 16 at 2:54am ET over the South Indian Ocean. Launched in November 1997, with a design lifetime of 3 years, TRMM produced over 17 years of valuable scientific data.
