Hawaiian Hoary Bat

From the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS):

Little Bat, Long Traveler — It appears that this Hawaiian Hoary bat is enjoying time in the spotlight with a grin like that! This hoary bat may seem tiny, being able to fit into someone's hand, but his ancestors traveled over 3,600 kilometers from the Pacific coast almost 10,000 years ago to become Hawaii's state land mammal. Scientists used sophisticated DNA sequencing to determine where these bats originated from and how they made their way to the islands of Hawaii.
