WESTERN NORTH PACIFIC - System 95W Has a High Chance to Become a Depression
On Nov. 16, System 95W was located near 5.1 north latitude and 167.5 east longitude, approximately 215 nautical miles south of the Kwajalein Atoll. Satellite imagery shows that the love-level center of circulation is consolidating.There are also bands of thunderstorms that have formed in the southern quadrant of the storm, wrapping into the eastern side of the storm.
Recent ASCAT imagery (which measures surface winds) reveals a more pronounced circulation with 15-20 knot winds and isolated 25-30 knot winds over the eastern side.
This infrared image from the MODIS instrument aboard NASA's Terra satellite on Nov. 16 at 10:55 UTC (5:55 a.m. EDT) shows a good circulation. The strongest thunderstorms with coldest cloud top temperatures appear around the center (green).
The Joint Typhoon Warning Center said that dynamic computer models indicate gradual intensification over the next 24-36 hours as the system tracks west-northwestward.
It has a high chance for development into a tropical depression in the next 24 hours.
