Bloodroot Plants | George Washington Carver National Monument

Today's #WildflowerWednesday that recently bloomed at the park is: Bloodroot

Also known as Sanguinaria canadensis, these plants are found growing in moist to dry woods and thickets, often on flood plains and near shores or streams on slopes.

They grow less frequently in clearings and meadows, so you will not normally see them in our prairie area. These flowers are loved by all, including deer who like to feed on them in early spring.
