One of the earliest ecological surveys was done right here. In 1904 and 1905, a team of researchers from the University of Michigan journeyed to this#isolatedisland to “study the relationship of the plant and animal life to their surroundings.” They hoped to demonstrate how environmental relationships trigger ecological change and this research project became a model for how to collect and analyze field data.
