Anniversary of The Wilderness Act

"It is hereby declared to be the policy of the Congress to secure for the American people of present and future generations the benefits of an enduring resource of wilderness."

Today marks the 53rd anniversary of the#WildernessAct, signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964. The Act established the National Wilderness Preservation System and instructed federal land management agencies to manage wilderness areas and preserve wilderness character.
