An Eruptive Situation — For our #TBT today, we couldn't help but share with you this shot taken in 1993 at Kilauea volcano in Hawaii. In this shot, we see a geologist collecting spatter samples while fountains erupt southwest of the episode 53 vent at the base of Pu‘u ‘O‘o. The vent began to erupt on February 20 (beginning of episode 53), producing 1–4m high fountains that increased in height to 15m by the 21st. Photo credit: C.C. Heliker, USGS).
