GOES-L Satellite

This week marks 15 years since the launch of GOES-L from the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida (May 3, 2000). The launch vehicle was an Atlas II/ Centaur rocket. Once achieving orbit the satellite was designated GOES-11. The satellite was deactivated after 12 years in orbit. Image credit: NASA
