Mount St. Helens, 35 years ago, Apr 15, 1980

From USGS Volcanoes:

Mount St. Helens, 35 years ago, Apr 15, 1980. “Scientists detect volcano ‘contractions’” prints The Oregonian newspaper (Portland, OR). Data telemetered to Vancouver from the continuously recording tiltmeter at the Timberline parking area show small but continuous bulging and shrinking. Geologists aren’t sure what this means. Mount St. Helens continues its “regular” pattern of earthquakes and steam eruptions.
