SOUTHWESTERN PACIFIC OCEAN - System 99P Has a Low Chance to Develop

From NASA's Hurricane Web Page:

SOUTHWESTERN PACIFIC OCEAN - System 99P Has a Low Chance to Develop
The tropical low pressure area known as System 99P is located in Northern Australia's Gulf of Carpentaria near 14.9 south latitude and 138.3 east longitude, about 120 miles north-northwest of Mornington Island, Australia.
The Joint Typhoon Warning Center gives this a low chance for development in the next 24 hours. The low is a broad area embedded in monsoon trough (elongated area of low pressure). Thunderstorm development has increased though, along the northern quadrants of the system as seen in this infrared image from the MODIS instrument aboard NASA's Terra satellite on Dec. 22. However, the low is being affected by moderate to strong vertical wind shear (20 to 30 knots).
Global computer models show that System 99P may develop into a depression in the next couple of days, but in the short term, there is a low chance that will happen.
