BEAVER LAKE REDUCES DOWNSTREAM FLOODING

December 28, 2015

From U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Beaver Lake Arkansas

BEAVER LAKE REDUCES DOWNSTREAM FLOODING

Although near record releases are being made from Beaver Dam this week, the Army Corps of Engineers emphasizes that Beaver Lake and the other White River system lakes have dramatically reduced flood damage. Flows below Beaver alone would have been more than double the current release.

A release of 91,150 cubic feet per second is being made from Beaver, which is the second largest release of record. The lake level elevation is 1,131.6 feet with 116 percent of its flood capacity in use. The lake continues to rise and is expected to crest today near 1,132.5 feet. All seven spillway gates are open nine and one-half feet.

During the height of the storm Beaver had inflows of 200,000 c.f.s. with releases of 91,500 c.f.s. reducing the severity of flooding downstream of the dam.

Beaver Dam’s release of record was 92,400 c.f.s. during the flood of 2008.

Daily lake information can be obtained at www.swl-wc.usace.army.mil or the Corps’ mobile App which can be found in mobile App stores by searching for USACE Little Rock. You can find the spillway release information next to the word “note” at the top of the Beaver and Table Rock water control pages under the releases tab on our app or by clicking real time data on our water control web page.
