Ojito Wilderness

From the Bureau of Land Management - New Mexico:

Welcome to Wilderness Wednesday, our weekly posting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act.

#BLMNewMexicoWilderness50

We have posted 50 Wilderness Wednesday messages, one commemorating each year of the Wilderness Act, and this marks our final post. If you would like to review any of our previous Wilderness Wednesday posts, please visit:

This week, we are highlighting the Ojito Wilderness. Designated in 2005, the 11,820 acre Ojito Wilderness is a desert landscape of steep-sided mesas, box canyons, deep arroyos, and badlands. The trail we are directing you to leads to a concentration of hoodoos, which are complimented by a grove of ponderosa pines (a rare surprise in this desert environment).www.blm.gov/nm/ojito.

The holiday season of gift giving is a good time to reflect on our ability to experience some areas in their original wilderness condition. The preservation of wilderness is a gift we have received from the generations that preceded us, and a gift we will pass on to the generations that follow. Thank you for joining us each Wednesday through 2014 to discover the wilderness resources managed by the BLM in New Mexico.
