Autumn Hiking | Canyon de Chelly National Monument

Autumn in Canyon de Chelly is a gorgeous time of year as the Fremont Cottonwood Trees turn a beautiful, golden yellow. Along with the weather, Autumn is also a perfect time to hike the canyons.

White House Trail is the only public hike anyone can do on their own, but there are many other trails one can take with a Park Ranger, or with an Authorized Guide. Visit our website for a list of scheduled Ranger-led Hikes and programs coming up in November for Native American Heritage Month.

Trailhead of Bat Trail | Canyon de Chelly National Monument

Canyon de Chelly is one if the most beautiful canyons of the southwest. But, most people who visit, only see a small part of the park from the canyon rims, or along the white house trail. The reason for this, is that Canyon de Chelly National Monument is still home for many families both on the rim and along the floor.

When you are able to take an organized trip with a private tour company or with a park ranger, you will be able to experience the canyon much more and you may also see more beautiful and peaceful areas of the canyon, such as this view from the trailhead of Bat Trail.

Bat Trail descends down into Bat Canyon, one of many side canyons in the park, and can be used to reach Spider Rock.

Waterfall at Canyon de Chelly

Summer monsoons often bring sudden downpours of much needed rain to the southwest. And following heavy rains, are the rare and beautiful waterfalls of Canyon de Chelly. It is definitely a beautiful sight to see all the waterfalls from the canyon rim, but it is an even more amazing experience to see them from the canyon floor.
