NASA Insight Has Landed
Source: NASA Solar System Exploration
When you look up tonight and spot bright, reddish Mars in the early evening sky, just remember it’s the only planet that is populated entirely by robots from Earth. (As far as we know so far.) Today, that population increased by 1. Congratulations to the entire NASA InSight team. Learn more:solarsystem.nasa.gov

The Little Matterhorn in Glacier National Park
NPS Photo
The Little Matterhorn is a relatively small pyramidal peak located on the west side of the park. From a distance it may not stand out like other large peaks in the Lake McDonald Valley, but if you hike to the foot of Avalanche Lake, you will see it standing tall atop the shared ridge between the Avalanche Basin and the Snyder Basin. If you plan to hike to Avalanche Basin in November or early December, watch your footing -- the Little Matterhorn won't be the only thing covered in snow. This time of year the Avalanche Lake Trail can often be snow covered and icy. Hiking poles and traction gear that you can put over the bottom of your shoes can be helpful on slippery trails.

Caught by the Camera Trap
Source: Blue Ridge Parkway
We never quite know what we will find when sorting through the photos from our Parkway camera traps. This barred owl and deer came by our cameras at around 4 a.m. to share a drink at a popular watering hole.
This project allows for a better understanding of the habits of wildlife along the Parkway, helping to manage and protect these precious resources.
