Remembering Katrina

From the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS):

10 years ago today, Hurricane Katrina made first landfall in South Florida, giving us a preview of its destructive power. Many USGS scientists, employees and their families were directly affected by the storm, making their efforts to rescue stranded people and support other first responders personal.

Many of these same USGS employees continue to live in South Louisiana and Mississippi and help their friends and neighbors in the long rebuilding. Today, we remember their efforts and look at how their ingenuity and perseverance has given rise to better hurricane science to protect our coastal communities:http://on.doi.gov/1JmddJM
