USGS and Minerals Mapping

From the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS):

Gold, Platinum, and Rare Earths—that’s a pretty valuable trio, and Alaska has high potential for significant deposits of them. But how to find them?

You may have heard, but Alaska is a big place. Figuring out where to look for critical minerals deposits can be tough, and you’ll want a good idea of where to start before you hit the field.

That’s where innovative thinking at the USGS is your friend. By repurposing several pre-existing databases and pairing them with state-of-the-art GIS, USGS and the Alaska Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys were able to identify several areas of high potential for placer gold, platinum group metals, rare earths, copper, uranium, and tin-tungsten-molybdenum-fluorspar deposits.
