Happy Anniversary, Mt. St. Helens!

From the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA):

On this day in 1980, NOAA Satellite and Information Service's GOES-3 satellite took this visible image of the Pacific Northwest showing the massive eruption of Mount St. Helens in the western part of the Cascade range. This image of the large pyroclastic plume of smoke and ash was taken two hours after the eruption began.
