Roosevelt Elk | Olympic National Park

29 years before President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed legislation to create Olympic National Park in 1938, President Teddy Roosevelt designated a part of the Olympic Forest Reserve as Mount Olympus National Monument. This was primarily to protect a large herd of forest elk for whom the Olympic Mountains served as a breeding ground. In fact, this is where Roosevelt Elk get their name.

Have you spotted any Roosevelt Elk while hiking in ONP?

Lake Crescent | Olympic National Park

It’s a very early morning, but I was rewarded with the start of a beautiful sunrise at Lake Crescent. Days like this are connections for me to the resources I work so hard to protect. -Ranger Ben

UNCLE SAMULE WANTS YOU!

From Olympic National Park:

UNCLE SAMULE WANTS YOU!
to help improve America's Best Idea!

He'll haul your gear, pack your tools, scramble sidehills up and down and through rivers, to get you safely into the backcountry.
Unwavering and steadfast, Sam will support your hardworking efforts to continue to make Olympic the best darn National Park there is.

Happy 4th from our July Mule of the Month, Samule, and from Ranger Heidi who snapped this great picture!
