Arp 273

From Hubble Space Telescope:

The peculiar rose shape of the double galaxy known as Arp 273 is a result of the gravitational pull between the two galaxies as they move through and past each other in space.

Arp 273 is just one of more than 300 galaxies selected by Halton Arp for his Atlas of Peculiar Galaxies, published in 1966. Dr. Arp looked for galaxies that deviate from the typical spiral and elliptical shapes to better understand how galaxies change over time. #AstronomyHistory#PeculiarHubble
