Tiananmen Square 25th anniversary

On April 15, 1989, former general secretary of China's Communist Party, Hu Yaobang, a man viewed as a liberal reformer, died. In mourning his death students and intellectuals took to the streets of Beijing and started demonstrations in Tiananmen Square. The protests lasted for seven weeks before being brutally crushed by the Chinese government.
