Happy Full Disk Friday!

From NOAA Satellite and Information Service:

Happy Full Disk Friday! As we typically do on Friday afternoon, we thought we'd take a moment to step back -- approximately 22,240 miles -- and appreciate our beautiful home. This week we're sharing another GOES-16 full disk geocolor image captured at 1:45 pm (eastern) today, August 4, 2017.

Of particular note in this image is the Tropical Depression Eleven-E (TD Eleven-E) in the Eastern Pacific Ocean. TD Eleven-E is currently located about 335 miles west-southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico. This storm has maximum sustained winds of 30 miles per hour with higher gusts.

Thanks to the satellite's 16-band Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI), GOES-16 can provide more detailed imagery with greater frequency than of its GOES predecessors. In addition to offering more channels, ABI can provide a full disk image of the Earth every 15 minutes, one of the continental U.S. every five minutes, and has the ability to target regional areas of severe weather or other events as often as every 30 seconds.

This imagery appears here courtesy of CIRA, which developed the experimental geocolor enhancement. To see more what GOES-16's ABI can do, visit our image gallery at goo.gl/s3uCtg.

Please note: GOES-16 data are currently experimental and under-going testing and hence should not be used operationally.
