E is for Erratic
When hiking on #IsleRoyale, you may come across really large boulders sitting all by their lonesome. You may stop and wonder… Hmmm? These massive rocks seem really out of place.
Well you are correct. These boulders don’t “belong” here, but are very much a part of the island’s geologic story. These erratics, moved here by#glaciers thousands of years ago, differ in color and texture from the island’s black and red rocks. Though glaciers have long been gone, these foreign rocks remain as evidence of the island’s icy past. #geologyrocks #glacialgeology
