The District of Columbia War Memorial

From National Mall and Memorial Parks:

The District of Columbia War Memorial honors 499 D.C. residents who gave their lives in World War I. Veterans Day began as Armistice Day, marking the end of the "War to End All Wars," on November 11, 1918. There remains an implied hope that some day, we will not create any more combat veterans.
